  • Rishab Shetty is a renowned Kannada filmmaker who shot to fame by his role in the critically acclaimed 'Ulidavaru Kandante'. While his debut directorial 'Ricky' that proved his mettle as a talented director, his second outing 'Kirik Party' turned him into one of the most sought after directors in Kannada Film Industry.

EARLY DAYS

Born in Keradi, kundapura on 7 July 1983, his original name is Prashanth Shetty. He did his B.Com in BHS College Jayanagar, before doing his MBA in Christ College, Bangalore. It was after the advice after his father, a renowned astrologer that he changed his screen name to Rishab Shetty.

THE FIRST STEP

It was of his childhood desire to become an artist. He joined the Durga Parameshwari Yuvaka Sangha, as a Yakshagana artist when he was in class 6th. During his college days, he was an active member of Ranga Sourabha, the theatre group of BHS. His role of Ghashiram Kotwal in the play by the same name fetched him the best actor award in the national level theatre contest.

LEARNING THE CRAFT

After his graduation, he was keen on taking up acting as a profession. While looking into various opportunities that could earn him a job of an actor, he was told that working as an assistant director would make it easier. After doing a short course in filmmaking in GFTI hesaraghatta, he worked as an assistant director in the Kannada movie -Cyanide.

RIDING THE WAVE

After 8 years of endless wait came Lucia and Ulidavaru Kandante- both the movies which brought a sea of change in Kannada cinema. While he played a cop in the former, in the latter he played the role of a runaway criminal apart from working as an Associate Director.

CALLING THE SHOTS

In the year 2014, he began the filming of Ricky, script for which he had written in the year 2008. The movie starring Rakshit Shetty and Haripriya was released in the year 2016 and earned him accolades from critics and audience alike.

RECOGNITION & ACCOLADES

In the same year, Rakshit and Rishab came together yet again, for the script penned by Rakshit. The movie titled Kirik Party, went on to become a runaway hit and had the whole industry looking at him in admiration.
